A new men’s singles champion

The young make hay…

Edward with trophy

Is it just me or does his racket look unfairly big?

After a great tournament on Friday, 11th July, a new name will appear on the coveted men’s singles trophy, that of fifteen year old Edward Beccle. Having foolishly relaxed our over 18s only rule, the men’s singles was invaded by a cohort of powerful young players Edward Beccle, Jake Allison and Sam Mason, all of whom played and competed well.

And, Edward, having disposed of last year’s finalist Olly Willans in the semis, saw off the braveheart Broadhurst in a floodlit final.

We had sausages kindly provided by Elizabeth Beccle, coooked up on Olly’s firepit and were well supported by Brian Kermode, Richard and Gill Collier and others. Also good to have new member Matthew Fleet competing.
