The EXCEL TENNIS ACADEMY aims to make tennis accessible for all. Whatever your age, ability or background, we believe you should be given the opportunity to fulfil your potential in an enjoyable manner. Whether you’re in line for a Wimbledon title, a talented county player, or just want to play for fun – our objectives remain the same for everyone.
The man behind this ethos and the EXCEL TENNIS ACADEMY is Edward Large, himself a tennis coach with over 16 years experience. Edward took on his First head coach’s role at 19 turning a small club programme into a thriving programme catering for all ages and abilities. He works very closely with the LTA and the junior county teams.
The Excel Tennis Academy follow the LTA Mini Tennis Scheme, This Scheme is based around players playing with appropriate equipment and learning the appropriate skills for their age.
Mini Tennis Red is for children aged 4 – 8 years old. It is played across the court over a smaller net and using larger slower balls, the children also use smaller rackets.
Mini Tennis Orange is for 9 year olds and is played on the main court but with the court dimensions being reduced, normal size but slower balls are used.
Mini Tennis Green is for 10 year olds and is played on the full court with normal size balls but again slower than your usual yellow ball.
